Gerald Konohia

Gerald P. Konohia is a trusted leader, licensed attorney, and community developer with more than two decades of experience creating order, structure, and opportunity through education and economic development. As Chief Executive Officer of Community College Preparatory Academy, he sets a high standard of excellence, ensuring that adult learners in Washington, D.C. gain the skills, confidence, and pathways to thrive in the city’s “high school plus” economy. 

Throughout his career, Mr. Konohia has been at the helm of organizations that restore stability and transform distressed communities. As Senior Manager for the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County, he directed more than $900 million in real estate projects delivering housing, retail, and jobs to neighborhoods most in need. Previously, as President & CEO of multiple Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) including OpenDoor Housing Fund in Washington, D.C. and Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise in Tennessee, he led the financing and development of thousands of affordable and mixed-income housing units, strengthened organizational governance, and guided institutions through periods of growth and renewal. 

His expertise spans law, finance, housing, and organizational management, reinforced by his work with the U.S. Treasury’s CDFI Fund and other federal and state agencies, where he has reviewed and assessed more than 180 applications for funding and development initiatives. A graduate of the University of Maryland and Howard University School of Law, Mr. Konohia combines legal precision with the authority of executive leadership to establish order, deliver results, and build lasting institutions.
